ARE YOU TAKING A BABY HOME?

They may look like adults, but they are still babies. We have 13 years of sending BABIES home. If you follow our instructions, they will thrive.

1. Keep the baby in a travel cage for the first week! (It is virtually impossible NOT to find food and water in a tiny cage.)

Give millet freely for the first few weeks.

Yes, it is a “treat” but they will EAT it even if stressed or nervous. CALORIES ARE MORE IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW WHILE IT'S ADJUSTING.

  • Week ONE- one millet a day PER baby.

  • Week TWO- ½ a millet A DAY PER baby.

  • Week Three- ¼ a millet spray A DAY PER baby. By gradually reducing the millet over time, you are gently weaning your baby back onto the healthier maintenance diet.

  •

IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOUR BABY COULD STARVE!

2. Use open water dishes. If your cage cups come with a lid, take the lid off for a few weeks. Training onto a water bottle or a drinker takes TIME. You must do this slowly while making sure your bird knows how to use them correctly.

3. DO NOT walk around with your baby on your shoulder. They WILL fall and they WILL get hurt. Babies do not yet have the coordination to hold onto you as you move around. They will become more coordinated in a few months. HOLD THEM SITTING DOWN.

4. Remember that they are BABIES. They may look like adult birds but they ARE NOT. YOU must assume that they need help with EVERYTHING.

  • Place perches directly in front of the food and water bowls.

  • Place toys where they can easily be reached from a perch.

  • Clip the millet (during weeks 1-3) where the baby likes to perch.

  • Watch them to MAKE SURE that they are eating and drinking.

  • WATCH FOR CRYING/BEGGING BEHAVIOR. THIS MEANS THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG! ANYTHING THAT DOESN’T SEEM “RIGHT” TO YOU---VIDEOTAPE IT AND MESSAGE THE VIDEO TO ME ON FACEBOOK MESSENGER IMMEDIATELY! I WILL BE THERE FOR YOU DAY OR NIGHT.
